Bodegas Regian Viarum

The driver was cautious as he drove us up there, that hill overlooking the vineyards and river, yet he managed. We arrived with the sun high in the sky, heating our bodies in the 26+-degree sun. I stood listening to the story of this winery, established by a man who loved this place and wine, when we entered the world behind the doors. The interior, filled with local wine attributes – barrel hoops and lids - led us to the second floor, where a movie showing life in the vineyards was shown. Why? Everyone who drinks wine from Ribeira Sacra should understand one thing - everything here is done manually. But you will probably say ‘as is done in many places, but the difference is that it is done on very steep terraces – in some areas, even 85 degrees - and is not only labor intensive but also a hazardous job. The movie shown to guests reveals just a tiny bit of that hard work, but the next time we drink that Albarino, we understand and know the story behind it.

Bodegas Regina Viarum is a place that symbolizes passion, prosperity, knowledge, innovation, tradition, beauty, finesse, and various tastes and ages. Arriving here, just one hour's drive from a nearby place, is like taking a plane to fly somewhere else. The views, the wines, the restaurant, and the food. It's beyond what one would expect from Galicia and its simplicity, even provincialism. It's a half-day moment not to be rushed into. To enjoy step by step, bit by bit, especially on the terrace overlooking that immense power of nature while sipping it in a glass.
