Turmeric and sesame banana bread
Something different than usual, as I have not ever seen a banana bread with turmeric, yet the taste is so great that this has become one of my favourite ways to eat banana bread.
200 g very ripe peeled banana
100 g sweetened condensed milk
110 g mild oil
2 large eggs
110 g Demerara sugar
240 g all-purpose flour (T65 in France)
1,5 tsp baking powder
0,5 tsp baking soda
3 cardamom pods, seeds crushed
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
pinch of sea salt
orange blossom water if you want (the amount depends on how strong the water is)
130 g dried, pitted dates torn into pieces
50 g sesame seeds
Preheat the oven to 190° C. Line a 10x30 cm pan with baking paper.
Put the bananas in a bowl and mix with a fork to a rough mash stage. Put into a bowl, add milk, oil, eggs, sugar, and mix until incorporated.
Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cardamom, turmeric, and salt in a separate bowl.
Add the wet mixture to the flour mixture. Mix until it is well combined, not longer. Mix in the blossom water, dates, and sesame seeds using a spatula.
Pour the batter into the pan, place it in the oven (one level lower than the middle), and bake for about 50 minutes to 1 hour (until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean).
When done, remove the pan and cool for 15 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack. Cool completely.
