Strawberry weekend

I went to buy flowers, as every Friday before breakfast. Peonies, as they were still in season. I did. Twenty of them, but while mumbling something in French and waiting for the cash machine to do its work, I turned my head to the right and saw a sign - fraises pour la confiture (strawberries for jam) to order for next week. So I did. 10 kg. The next week, just after 8, before breakfast and school, I picked them up (Armands did the carrying) along with flowers. I was ready to make – jam. And eat the rest. But a problem arose. They were good, but far from good enough for eating just like that. Some yes, most - no. That was when I knew that that weekend would be nothing but baking, cooking, and creating. And it was.

Having returned from the Saturday market, I disappeared into the kitchen, and Paula wrote down the recipes, Emily took pictures, and I was in the moment. One after the other came recipes from which I had to choose what to create – cheesecake, jam, mousse or tart, fresh in dessert or baked. The list of ideas kept swirling in my mind like a smoothie in a blender until I finally decided on these ten recipes. Recipes that satisfied my upstairs neighbors and beyond, my classmates and my friends. At least they said it did. And I hope they will satisfy you. Cheers.
