La Table du Grapiot

We entered the restaurant, and despite the misty weather and cold outside, it felt so home-like. Most probably because the fireplace was burning, and the air smelled of it burning logs. However, it could also be because the restaurant, although posh in a way, felt so calm and simple.

After a small chat and a few surprises, he placed the brioche on our plates, poured oil on a sharing plate, explained that we were going to enjoy mushroom brioche with walnut oil, asking us to take a piece of the bread and dip it gently in the oil and only then enjoy. That was after the girls had sipped their mango vinegar, apple, ginger, curry and egg yolk cocktail with me enjoying the fully booked Grapiot in the middle of nowhere.

We were in no hurry, and three hours of travelling through the Jura region passed in the blink of an eye. The dishes, starting from chef compliments (miniature truffle croque and gougères with mornay sauce and mustard) and pumpkin with squid to the most delicious and taste-generous scallops with scallop ravioli and foie gras with champignons, surprised us with every bite. The meal showed it all - the season, the region and the style of this place. When, after pre-dessert and dessert, we thought that the end had arrived, another surprise came with my cup of espresso, and one followed, in the shape of chocolate candies, the moment we left the restaurant. Decadent and surprising in many ways, this restaurant, in a way so far away from civilisation, was most certainly much more than a one-night stand.
