Rumene Manor

I stepped out of my car on Sunday and, with the sun shining brightly overhead, I entered through the main gate to find Rūmene Manor graciously standing before me. I slowly approached it, admiring the perfectly cut grass, the pergola to the right side, the trees lining the alley, and the Carriage House on the left. Flowers were blooming everywhere, and just to the right, I noticed the lake — a spot I knew I’d visit later.

There are a few manors in Latvia, but none quite like Rūmene Manor. I thought I knew it by heart, but after walking through its rooms and kitchen on Sunday, I rediscovered it and felt happy to have chosen this place to host my French cooking weekends in September (no places left) and November (still available).

That kitchen has been my love since the day I first saw it, many years ago. I’m so thrilled that, in just under a month, I’ll be back here for another cooking weekend — sharing that very kitchen with many wonderful people. November will be especially beautiful, as the huge fireplace will be burning while we cook and eat, and the kitchen and dining hall will be lit up with a festive glow
