Maison Terrasson

The first time we went to Lyon (many years ago), we stayed in the 2nd arr (we still love that part of the city very much). I remember the first morning when we searched for croissants in a city we didn’t know then but now call home. It wasn't that day we discovered this place. But the next day was lucky: as we explored the magic of this part of Lyon, we suddenly found ourselves at 13 Rue Sainte-Hélène where La Boulangerie de Saint-Marc was located.  Today, it’s called Maison Terrasson (the old name is still on the Internet). It won our souls with the most divine croissants there ever were. The following years, I considered it the best place for croissants and still believe they have one of the best croissants in the city. But not the usual because there is a touch of orange blossom water, and I undoubtedly love that.

This is an address you have to remember when in Lyon, first of all because it is tasty. Second of all, all bread and most of the products are organic. Thirdly, bread is made with natural leavening agents(many boulangeries make big bread like that but baguettes are without), and even some pastries like croissants and escargot (pain aux raisins) are made in this manner too. Fourthly, their pastries are made with Issgny butter. And the tastes are always surprising (during the season, instead of Chausson pomme, try Chausson with figs).

It is not close to our home, yet I like to walk there just so I can indulge later in everything I bought, and it never is just one type of bread, as it should be. Be prepared to wait in line, decide fast, and enjoy slowly.
